Ennesimo Film Festival goes green!
Strategies to reduce the environmental impact of Ennesimo Film Festival
Changing the world doesn’t require big-budget special effects—sometimes, you just need to change your frame! In true Ennesimo style, we decided that putting sustainability into practice shouldn’t be a chore, but an act of pure creativity. That’s why bringing it into classrooms with The Shape of Water or onto the screen with our Agenda 2030 selection simply wasn’t enough.
We love a good plot-twist here at Ennesimo: we’ve moved from theory to practice alongside Ecomagie! Old gadgets from past editions—T-shirts and bags tucked away in our warehouse—didn’t end up in a landfill.
Instead, they’ve been completely reinvented. Through an inspired upcycling process, Ecomagie has transformed these materials into exclusive badges, pencil cases, and brand-new festival accessories.
Every single piece is the result of careful, personal craftsmanship: a concrete step toward proving that even in the world of events, we can lower our environmental footprint. That’s the beauty of reuse—blending the Festival’s history with today’s creativity for a more conscious tomorrow
We believe that environmental transformation comes, also and above all, from cultural transformation. Indeed, cinema is a communication tool capable of disseminating and supporting the importance of sustainable development. These themes take us back to Agenda 2030, to which we also dedicate a selection of our Festival. We bring them to the classes of the schools participating in Ennesimo Academy with the course The Shape of Water. With a view to integrated sustainability, we are convinced that it is fundamental to invite cultural transformation: the aims are the dissemination of models of responsible production and consumption, and the activation of conscious participation of citizens. Cinema, as an artistic and creative language, assumes a strategic role in educating the public to more conscious and responsible lifestyles and choices, disclosing the major themes of sustainability.
And we are convinced that transformations only make sense and take place if, in addition to professing theories, they are also put into practice.
- That is why we limit the use and printing of promotional materials. And this is one of the reasons why the set-up items have been similar for a few years now: it is our encouragement to reuse!
- At the Festival venues you will find bins to sort waste correctly, but if you are not sure, ask the staff who have followed a refresher course on how to sort waste correctly according to the Fiorano Modenese municipality’s rules. In addition, our Sustainability Partner, the HERA Group also provides a special app to encourage correct waste separation, you can find it here.
- In order to reduce the consumption of disposable plastic, we have asked the catering services we rely on for staff and guest meals to avoid plastic tableware when serving meals and will use reusable tableware throughout the week.
- The gadgets we made for 2024 are made of recycled cotton and/or cardboard, guaranteed by certification. Similarly, the catalogue, although substantial, is printed on FSC-certified paper.
- We replaced the bulky flyer reporting all the festival week’s events with a handy postcard with a QR code, and encouraged people to use the website and social media for every update
- We invite everyone to travel green: and we start with our guests, whom we ask to reach us by train and/or bus at least as far as Modena station. And we have summarised on this page for the public how to reach us by public transport.
- We will take care of cleaning the festival site of any bulky waste caused by our passage.
