Once he graduated in directing at the Experimental Center of Cinematography in Turin, he directed a number of short films, among which Notte Rumena (1996) and Miguel (1999), before the debut of his feature film Ballo a tre passi (2003, winner of the David di Donatello award as Best First Feature). It was later followed by Sonetàula, Tajabone, Bellas mariposas, Assandira and Bentu. His works explore the connection between tradition and modernity in Sardinia, his motherland.
Dopo il diploma in regia al Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia, ha girato diversi corti, tra cui Notte rumena (1996) e Miguel (1999), prima di esordire con il lungometraggio Ballo a tre passi (2003, David di Donatello per la miglior opera prima), seguito da Sonetàula, Tajabone, Bellas mariposas, Assandira e Bentu. Nei suoi lavori esplora il rapporto fra tradizione e modernità nella sua terra, la Sardegna.
